Impulse and inspiration today

I have been thinking about making frogs and want to make native NZ ones instead of the classic shape i see.  I could probably find a picture on NZ Forest and Bird but there is so much more fun to it when you get to study them in person.

The impulse was that i went out for one thing, and came home with another thing, as you do. I don’t even have a pond,  but i came home with tadpoles……of course !

A bit of rush DIY pond making later, riverstones out of the garden, duckweed, some rainwater and my pottery and they have a home to transform in.

Update: well it is not as pretty one but after 3 tries i found a container that didn’t have holes for me to plug, so the tadpoles, baby fish and plants from the river can keep their water 🙂

Tai chi and bird feeders

dsc03525

I have had a good night tonight.  I feel all balanced after my tai chi class, where i sometimes remember the moves and sometimes know my left from my right, but not too sure if the bird feeders i made tonite will be balanced.  At least I am 🙂

Normally i would have made 3 points to hang up these birdfeeders but the shape of them didn’t suit it so these ones are a bit of an experiment, will have to see how to string them when they’re done, might have to wire them instead, or just re-design them.

I’m in love again!

I brought home the completed pottery beagle and grumpy pig from the pottery club today. I am in love with them, Baxter took a bit longer.

I couldn’t resist getting the camera out for the introductions to his new pack 🙂

Playing with the Angels

The first angels i made were little short chubby ones in terracotta which i love, yesterday i thought i would revisit making them in a different style out of a smooth white clay. The  basic templates i made from coloured card might need a bit of adjusting before i make the next one.

It’s a bit trickier to work with but the colour response with coloured slips and oxides should be really good.

Too much for me and the chooks

Thankfully it is not cold but it is raining, good for the seedlings but not the greatest for me and the chooks!

dsc03090

The poor things have decided to gaurd the nest they made under the rose bush again, rain or not. I also gave away the rooster so the eggs won’t even be fertile, the silly chooks.

I had planned on today being “moving day” for them as i only have the gate left to put on their new home and run, i just didn’t want to get drenched myself. “One more night to go chooks”

And for me the muggy rain means a lot of moisture is still in the air, so the clay projects from the class are very slow at drying.  The water can’t evaporate into wet air, mid summer is another story with trying to slow it down.
