Why a box of matches?

My beautiful, cheeky, not very well trained beagle Baxter, especially with the drop command, decided on Friday that i was not going to get “his” prized possession, a full box of matches! I don’t get it, why bite the hand that feeds him …over a box of matches of all things!!  It was only small but got far enough into the base of my thumb/palm to get the muscle infected, not a good look but responding to antibios, a wee miracle on fingolimod.

Naturally i’ve been through a raft of emotions about my baby, mostly distressing, and he has only just started sitting next to me again, he wouldn’t even sleep on the bed the first night, or even tentatively look at me till the next day, with his reaction i don’t think he meant to connect, he was just determined i wasn’t even going to try get the matches off him.

So…I have discovered there are some things i cannot do one handed, or with my left hand ie. wedge the bag of stoneware clay scraps, catch the chooks, hammer nails to finish the coop, type, have a quick shower with a broken shower head and not flood the bathroom, turn a key, knead the pizza dough for last nights dinner, start a new sculpture for the Art Waikino Award.

Deflated by a box of matches…

Watermarks? What do you think?

Why, you may be wondering?

I stumbled across a website the other day that was selling my pottery blog photos as posters OMG, needless to say it freaked me out so I put a copyright banner on the side and playing around with some new ideas.

The chook was a DIY one that looks a bit naff so maybe the second one. What do you think about them? Do they help? What do you do?

A Potters Washing Day

Washing shelves: have painted a few layers of kiln wash on my kiln shelves, with the aim of catching any accidental drips, drops and slumps so I don’t ruin the shelves.

Washing benches, containers, cloths and glaze mixing stuff from last night after mixing oxides and stains into a base glaze.  Washing works much better than a sweep for kicking up dusty chemicals.

Washing recycled glass bottles for my next experiment.

And of course, the thing none of us can escape, boring old clothes washing.

Really?!

How could I be the only person in the club NOT to be told when the wood fire kiln opening was…really sad I missed one of the most exciting parts of the process, especially after lighting it.

Today: tears have dried now and it’s just one of those things that happen, it will be exciting to see the finished products so focusing on that 🙂

Raglan Women’s Retreat

After 11 days at the Raglan Women’s Retreat, it is back to earth with a little thud.

It is surprisingly hard to make that transition from being looked after, being with supportive women, aromatherapy, trying out tai chi, sunsets on the water like this and swimming in the sea to …..well…..life!

Not that I am complaining, it’s just that I have come home with all sorts of envy including Vege Garden Envy!

And bought a couple of small stamps that might work their way into my next creations 🙂

Brain off..pottery on!

Well that’s todays battle over. I planned for this blog to be just about the pottery because that’s all I wanted to focus on,  the good stuff.  Then the beagle and the chooks crept in but that’s good stuff too.  The last couple of days though has just been one big old struggle to turn off the negative, but there is only so much one person can be subjected to before getting a bit negative about it all. So I am not judging myself for it, I just have to work harder at it some days.
